Council Tax UP; Council Charges UP

Taxes up, grants cut by Tunbridge Tories.

Council Tax bills for the residents of Tunbridge Wells have increased by 13.6% this year. But that is not all:

Charges for car parking have increased by up to 33%

Charges for cremation have increased by more than 15%

Charges for the use of Sports Centre have increased by 10%.

In the two years from 2001/2 to 2003/4:

Direct employee costs have increased by no less than 26%

Consultants' fees have increased by 30%

Advertising and publicity costs have increased by 30%

Members' allowances have increased by 135%

While, at the same time:

Grants to youth and community groups (amongst others) have fallen by 10%; and

Support for other community initiatives have fallen by 28%.
