The lives of residents and businesses in the Ropers Gate and Rowan Tree Road areas are suffering from vandals and hooligans.

But they have been refused the security cameras that would help to reduce crime in these areas.

"Since I was elected to the Council two years ago, I have raised the issue many times with the Tory-controlled Council", says Liberal Democrat Councillor Peter Crawford. "The answer is always the same, 'No'. But I will not take No for an answer. Why can the Council find the money to put so many cameras into the Town Centre when it cannot find the money for Ropers Gate and Showfields? We need cameras to help the many residents who are afraid to leave their own homes and the many businesses who are considering closure because of crime and the fear of crime."
