The Real Alternative

Capel Parish Council will not be Bounced into Housing

6.40.36am GMT Sat 27th Mar 2004

A last minute attempt by the Housing Association to 'bounce' the Parish Council into agreeing to a proposal for affordable housing in Tolhurst Road seems now to be doomed.

At a well attended Parish Council meeting before Christmas, when residents of Tolhurst Road, Pemble Close and the adjacent part of Five Oak Green Road made their concerns clear, the plan was decisively rejected. Since then, there has been no planning application for the site, on which the deadline for funding was 5 December 2003.

Cllr. Patterson considers that such schemes are a good idea in principle, but they will not be accepted if they are foisted on the community without proper consultation.

At the meeting, the Parish Council agreed to seek alternatives based on a more up to date Housing Needs survey for the Parish, which will be carried out later this year.
