"Every vote for the Liberal Democats is a vote to get rid of the Council Tax"

Commenting on the Council Tax which is particularly unfair to pensioners, Charles Kennedy has said,

"The local elections are an opportunity to make a stand against the unfair Council Tax. Both Labour and the Conservatives back a Council Tax system that means poor people pay over 4 times more of their income in council tax than the rich.

The Liberal Democrats are firmly against the Council Tax. We want fair local taxation based on people's ability to pay. We want a system where poor pensioners and families pay less. We want to axe the unfair Council Tax.

Every vote for the Liberal Democrats is a vote to get rid of the Council Tax."
