Councillor Bob Wratten calls on Kent County Council to be more Open

5.56.04pm BST (GMT +0100) Fri 4th Jun 2004

Councillor Bob Wratten is very concerned about the closure of Rusthall Elms, a residential day care centre for people with learning disabilities.

The Lib Dem Councillor for Rusthall states "There has been a lot of anger in Rusthall over this closure, and particularly the very short notice given to those affected ie just two weeks.

Frozen Out

Combined with the closure of the elderly persons care home Middlefields, it fuels speculation there is a possible scheme to sell the land for housing".

He continues "A builder does have ownership of a house on the 'Boundary' which could conceivably be used for access. There's a lot at stake. Not just a residential day care centre and a residential home for the elderly, but there is a school playing field involved too".

Councillor Wratten states Conservative led Kent County Council must be more open with residents about their plans for the site.
