Councillor Hugh Patterson has been very active on Highway issues

Lib Dem Councillor Hugh Patterson appreciates how important highways issues are to the residents of Capel, Five Oak Green and Tudeley. Below are two issues he has tackled: -

Five Oak Green village centre:

At the end of December, Councillor Patterson met with the Chairman of the Parish Council and an engineer from the Highways Unit to discuss Highways issues affecting the centre of Five Oak Green. It was agreed to push for a restricted waiting limit outside the Post Office to prevent the loss of business caused by all day parking which prevents customers accessing the shop.

"We also looked at ways to make it easier for pedestrians to cross from one side of the road to the other in the centre of the village. A full blown crossing may lead to the loss of parking spaces, but the engineer is going to look at the possibility of traffic islands in strategically placed locations. He has also promised to take another look at traffic and parking issues along Badsell Road/Falmouth Place to see if a solution can finally be arrived at to address residents' concerns," said Councillor Patterson.

Good news in Tudeley:40mph limit nearly here

The police have finally agreed to the 40mph speed restriction through Tudeley. This was advertised in the middle of March, and should come into force in the summer. This comes as a result of campaigning by Councillor Patterson, the Parish Council and local residents over the past four years.

Funding was also agreed for work to go ahead in the summer to make the Hartlake Road junction safer. Unfortunately Kent County Council have not agreed to spend the £25,000 necessary to build the proposed foot-way between Hartlake Road and All Saints' Church. If re-elected, Councillor Patterson will press for this to be done at the earliest opportunity.
