Leadership Hustings puts Tunbridge Wells on the Map!

Simon Hughes spoke about the need for the leader of the party to help grassroots campaigners

Tunbridge Wells Liberal Democrats have hosted an extremely successful leadership hustings, attended by all three candidates for the leadership of the party.

Sir Ming Campbell (pictured with Tunbridge Wells Borough Councillor Tom Symondson) spoke passionately about his vision for a fairer Britain under the Liberal Democrats

"We were very pleased with the evening. The room was full, with a turnout of over 250 people," said Alan Bullion, Chairman of Tunbridge Wells Liberal Democrats. "This event certainly put Tunbridge Wells on the map, as we had members and supporters from all over Kent, Sussex and Surrey coming here to meet the candidates, " he added.

Chris Huhne, well known in the south east as a tireless campaigner, spoke about the importance of bringing power closer to the people

"All three of our excellent leadership contenders promised to come down and help us in the local elections in May. We will be campaigning against the local council's policy of putting up taxes but providing poorer services, and cuts in sports provision," Dr Bullion said. "For the longer term, we see this as a launching pad for the next general election, where we aim to take seats such as Tunbridge Wells from Cameron's new Conservatives."
