Liberal Democrats are leading the campaign to stop Tony Blair's expensive plans for Identity Cards. The cards could cost £10 billion and will be a huge waste of money. And we will each be charged more than £80 to have one!

"The Lib Dems are the only major party to have consistently opposed ID cards," says Lesley Herriot. "I believe that this is a hugely wasteful and unnecessary Labour initiative. They won't stop terrorism, but will cost billions - where is the sense? The money should be spent on getting more police on our streets.

"Winston Churchill scrapped them and Margaret Thatcher was always against them but the current lot of Tories can't make up their minds" said local party chair Dr Alan Bullion. "Back in 1995, Tony Blair said money would be better spent on more police than on ID cards!"
